Celebrations in Kalong

“Life in Kalong will never be the same again!”

This was the message we received from the Director of SHUMAS on the day that he handed over the keys to a block of 3 new classrooms, an office and a new latrine at Kalong primary school.  Ever since the school was created in 2013 it has had to manage with only three small tumbledown classrooms made from planks (like the one pictured below) and, as there was no latrine at all, the children and teachers have had to use the bushes nearby.

There are currently 168 children on the school roll, but this number is expected to rise and the academic performance of the children is expected to improve enormously now that they can all enjoy a conducive learning environment.
