The new big school of St Francis in Bafut, NW Region, is almost ready to be handed over to the community. There is just the plastering to finish and the painting left to do. Excitement is growing in the village. It is another huge project for our charity to have undertaken and we couldn’t have managed it without the support of Gompels Healthcare and the involvement of the local community.
Eight new classrooms will be fully fitted with blackboards, study benches for the children and a tables and chairs for the teachers. There is also an office for the headteacher and a newly constructed latrine included in the project. It will mean that, for the first time in a more than decade the children of Bafut, from nursery to the end of primary education, will have a properly constructed, hygienic and dry environment in which to learn.
Handover day is scheduled for the 19th December. It will be a huge celebration – and a wonderful Christmas gift to the whole community.
