Another new school underway

CETIC Koupe Menke is a technical secondary school in the West Region.  It currently has just 2 classrooms, both of which are in a bad state of repair.  It has very few benches that can be used by the pupils, so the children must sit on the floor and write on their laps.  In this school, the teachers are attempting to provide 8 different skills training departments.  There is no toilet at the school – the nearest toilet is 300 meters away.  There is no drinking water at the school either.  The school ‘office’ is based on the verandah.  The PTA here has put up an additional two classrooms, made of mud blocks: it is all they could afford.

Fortunately, we have been given the funding for two additional brand new, weatherproof and durable classrooms, an office and a new toilet with handwashing facilities at CETIC Koupa Menke.  This project is underway now and should considerably ease the problems suffered by staff and pupils alike.

Another two primary school projects are in the pipeline too – in Galim in the West Region.  These will provide places for many of the IDP children that are currently at the Neighbourhood Learning Corners, and are gradually recovering the learning skills they need (but had lost due to the war and displacement) to get them up to standard to start formal primary education
