As if there weren’t enough difficulties in Cameroon at the moment, COVID-19 has now arrived and it is spreading quickly. Our partner in Cameroon, SHUMAS, has been quick to respond to this new crisis and is busy getting information about social distancing and how to prevent the spread of the virus to the isolated communities, particularly in the NW region. These IDPs are very vulnerable because whole families have to share one makeshift dwelling, there is little access to clean drinking water and there is a high level of malnutrition particularly amongst the children. SHUMAS staff are taking additional soap, hand sanitiser and buckets for hand-washing to each of these hard-to-reach communities and also providing training in the production of masks.
