Since the political crisis started back in 2016, two primary schools and a nursery school in the village of Bayelle, have joined forces to make one large primary and nursery school with approximately 2,000 pupils and 55 teachers. It has managed to keep functioning throughout the crisis, when almost all other primary schools, especially in the villages, have been closed …. but the water tap at the school only works one day each week and there are only 6 long-drop toilets for all the pupils and teachers to share. This means there is a real problem with sanitation at the school and the children’s health is suffering.
However, thanks to one of our generous supporters, we have managed to fund the construction of an additional large latrine block for the school and a borehole to provide clean drinking water all year round. The borehole has been drilled to a depth of 100 meters and a large tank is under construction which will be continuously refilled with the fresh water. The new latrine is also under construction now and it is hoped that the whole project will be completed by the end of November 2021. Everyone at the school is very excited indeed.

The water table has been reached.
