For the first time in our ten years of working in partnership with SHUMAS, we have had to postpone a planned trip to open school buildings in Cameroon. We are disappointed but not downhearted – and we hope to be re-scheduling the trip for later in the Spring. There has been local unrest for a few months in the Anglophone regions, because of pressure for French to be adopted as the first language in schools and the courts – and teachers and lawyers have been on strike. All schools in the NW and SW regions have been closed since November but SHUMAS is optimistic that a resolution to the problem is on the horizon and pupils will be thronging back into their schools soon.
