In April of this year, a small team from Main Road Films made their way out to Bamenda to capture some footage of the celebrations at the new school at St. Paul’s Ntahkeka. They met with staff, pupils and people from the local community: speeches were made, children sang and danced, the jujus made a spectacular appearance – and a great time was had by all! The team was led by Andrew Hindle, one of our trustees, who is making a promotional film for our charity. It wasn’t an easy task to organise and there were challenges at every stage of the trip – but fortunately Andrew has had plenty of experience both of travelling to Cameroon and working with film crews, so he was well prepared. Plenty of bottled water and a vast supply of snacks seemed to be the answer to most of the problems that cropped up. As always, their reception at SHUMAS was extremely welcoming and the staff went out of their way to be as helpful as possible. Despite fairly gruelling travel schedules and frustrating delays caused by security lockdowns, the team managed to get all the necessary footage ‘in the can’ before their return flights to the UK. The next part of the process takes time – but we eagerly await the premier! We hope the film will raise awareness of the amazing work we manage to do in Cameroon, through our partner NGO SHUMAS, and encourage more individuals and businesses to support us. Remember – every single penny donated to Building Schools for Africa goes directly to the projects – no deductions are made for admin!
